HMD Global gradually removes Nokia phones from its website

HMD Global has removed the Nokia phone brand from its website in Europe, but has not made any official announcement.

According to WinFuture , HMD Global is gradually removing Nokia-branded phones from its European sales website to focus on its HMD brand. This process is described as "quiet, slow and steady".

For new phone models, HMD Global simply changes the name. For example, the Nokia X21 is now sold as the HMD X21. Meanwhile, older models are marked as “end of life” and are no longer sold, indicating that HMD is no longer making devices under the Nokia brand.

Outside of Europe, Nokia phones are still available on HMD Global’s websites in Asia, North America, and Latin America, suggesting the transition is not happening simultaneously. Some tech sites speculate that HMD Global is likely selling off its remaining Nokia inventory in those regions before removing it entirely.

HMD has not commented.

According to GizChina , one reason for the move is that the license to use the Nokia brand will expire at the end of this year. HMD wants to focus on its own phone brand, instead of applying for a license renewal in the near future.

"HMD Global may see more value in developing its own phone brand, thereby freely establishing its identity in the smartphone market, not tied to the legacy and expectations of the Nokia name," the site commented.

Some experts say the smartphone market has become increasingly competitive in recent years and HMD Global may feel the Nokia brand is no longer enough to generate sales.

Meanwhile, for fans of the Nokia phone brand, HMD Global's move may be disappointing. Nokia used to represent quality and durability, so being removed from HMD's website feels like the end of an era.
